Rubber Dam Instruments
Rubber dam or dental dam is used to isolate the operative site from its environment. Rubber dam usually consists of a thin latex sheet, a frame to hold the sheet, a rubber dam clamp to place on the tooth. A rubber dam punch is used to make appropriate size hole in the sheet and Ivory forceps is used to place the clamp on the tooth.
The rubber dam has many benefits, it improves the visibility of the operative site, it prevents saliva interference and operating site remains dry. It also prevents materials or objects being swallowed. The technique also prevents contamination of oral bacteria during root canal therapy.
